Platform Engineer, Virtualization and Providers

About the Role

The Platform Engineer will build and maintain the provider integrations that supply compute resources to ORC8R, including bare metal, virtual machine and upcoming macOS and Windows backends. This role works at the boundary between the control plane and underlying infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain provider integrations that provision bare metal and virtual machine resources
  • Develop image baking and cloning workflows to enable fast, consistent node provisioning
  • Extend virtualization support to macOS and Windows alongside the existing Linux backend
  • Diagnose issues at the boundary between the control plane and physical or virtualized infrastructure
  • Produce clear technical documentation for operational and troubleshooting procedures

Basic Qualifications

  • Three or more years of experience working with infrastructure systems, including virtualization or bare metal provisioning
  • Proficiency in Rust, or strong systems programming experience with a willingness to learn Rust
  • Experience with hypervisors, virtual machine lifecycle management or image based deployment
  • Strong debugging skills for issues that manifest only on physical hardware
  • Based in or willing to relocate to Austin, Texas

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Apple Virtualization Framework, Cloud Hypervisor or QEMU
  • Background in network isolation, overlay networking or multi tenant infrastructure
  • Experience supporting Windows or macOS build and imaging pipelines

Compensation and Benefits
